FLOA Bank uses DataGalaxy to manage their complete data governance plan

Overview

FLOA Bank, leading French firm for payment facilities, makes life easier for consumers by providing payment in installments, mini credit loans, and bank cards. FLOA is a partner of major E-retailers, key firms in the travel industryand fintechs (Lydia, Bankin, and Joko). Already a leading firm in France and operating across Spain, Belgium, Italy, and Portugal, FLOA’s ambition is to become the European leader in payment facilities. Since February 2022, FLOA has joined the BNP Paribas group to accelerate its growth and become a European payment facility staple.

Project background

FLOA set up an autonomous internal data department made up of four teams:

  • Data factory team, which industrializes the ingestion of various heterogeneous sources and makes data available in the cloud
  • Data science team, responsible for customer segmentation and calculating grant, recovery, and risk scores and fraud detection algorithms
  • Data analytics team, focused on assisting in the expression of business needs and outputting them as company reports
  • Data strategy and projects team, in charge of coordinating the various teams, steering them, and communicating the long-term vision of all FLOA Bank data projects

The Data Knowledge Catalog implementation process

FLOA Bank began using DataGalaxy’s Data Knowledge Catalog in their data department to unite employees and improve the skills of its four data teams. One representative per term ensures that the information entered into the tool is complete and correct and centralises employee questions.

The DataGalaxy modules used at FLOA Bank:

  • Data Dictionary: Standardizes all metadata from tables and databases in one place
  • Business Glossary: Contains all the business terms and indicators used
  • Processing Catalog: Relates to the data ingestion flows through time
  • Usages Catalog: Includes all the reports and scores entered into production

A fully customizable interface

FLOA teams particularly like the fully-customizable Data Knowledge Catalog interface: Each screen can be pre-set by team members to respond to functional information needs as they arise

A company-wide adoption

To fully integrate the Data Knowledge Catalog among its data teams, FLOA set up a group of representatives made up of a member of each team to support employees, answer technical questions, and ensure documentation in the tool is making good progress.

FLOA has also provided comprehensive employee training about DataGalaxy’s Data Knowledge Catalog, so all users can utilize the tool for their specific needs.

The Snowflake connector for automation

FLOA used DataGalaxy’s Snowflake automated connection to pull all their pre-existing metadata into the Data Knowledge Cataog, greatly lightening their integration work. This connector is also regularly updated to retrieve as much metadata as possible, so FLOA can rely on this connector to follow trends and to keep up-to-date.
